The History of Brothers Leagues Club
Brothers have a deep-rooted history in the Far North Queensland community.
Founded in 1974, Brothers Social Club was initially formed to promote and support Brothers Rugby League Football Club, which later became incorporated and changed its name to Brothers Leagues Club.
From humble beginnings, the club steadily grew and carried out a number of renovations to its Anderson St premises. Pursuing its goal of supporting rugby league, the club successfully obtained a lease of 10 acres of land in Behan St in 1981. The facilities dedicated to Brothers Rugby League Club, comprising of two full-sized rugby league fields, a gym, canteen, and amenities were completed at a cost of over $600,000 and named after the club stalwart and builder of the complex, Stan Williams.
Throughout the year’s Brothers Leagues Club has expanded its view to support not only Brothers Rugby League but Cairns’ wider sporting community including, lawn bowls, rugby union, netball, hockey, and cricket! This wider scope soon led to the acquisition of a lawn bowls club in Edmonton, now known as Fuller Sports Club!
While the promotion and development of sport is the primary core value of Brothers, the Leagues Club is also involved in the broader community offering important financial and in-kind support to many schools and charitable organisations. At Brothers Leagues Club we shall always endeavor to better our community whilst providing excellent service, facilities, and quality entertainment for its members.
Brothers Leagues Club members can be truly proud of the club’s past and look forward to exciting times in the future!
