BROTHERS CONTINUES TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LIFESTYLES IN OUR REGION!

Continuing our charter to promote a healthy lifestyle and sports in the community, not just rugby league, Brothers Leagues Club Cairns is about to launch its 3^rd annual Brothers Community Sports Development Program.

“This program” said Mono Gomez, General Manager of Brother Leagues Club “will see a massive $60,000 distributed across a wide cross section of sports and communities. In light of the economic downturn and as a direct result of damage caused by the likes of Cyclone Yasi we can see a marked increase in the number of schools, sporting and community groups looking for assistance.”

He says the enormous response in 2010, from as far afield as Thursday Island in the North to south to Tully and west to Georgetown, had led to the application process being further refined to make it easier for applicants. “We have created an easy submission process and encourage people to apply now.”

In total, the program will see a massive $60,000 in equipment grants distributed to promote health and well being to 60 school, community groups and sporting clubs right across North Queensland and is open to any community group that conducts a regular sporting activity. “Sport promotes a healthy living, it’s a social activity that keeps kids off the streets by giving them purpose, something to do, to achieve, and that is very much what we are all about.”

Since opening in 1974, Brothers Leagues Club has been a potent and powerful force in fundraising for sporting endeavours and the Brothers Community Sports Development Program is at the pinnacle of direct action to assist the community.
